Overview
The goal of minimally invasive spine (MIS) surgery is to stabilise the vertebral bones and spinal joints and relieve pressure on the spinal nerves — often a result of spinal instability, bone spurs, herniated discs, scoliosis or spinal tumors. Minimally invasive approaches are faster, safer and require less recovery time than open surgery. Some MIS surgeries are performed as outpatient procedures using only local anaesthesia, reducing the risk of an adverse reaction to general anaesthesia.
